First United Methodist Church Foundation, Inc.

The First United Methodist Church of New Braunfels, Texas Foundation, Inc. was chartered in 1985. The objective of the Foundation is to provide the organizational means by which funds donated to the Foundation and earnings on these funds can be invested, accumulated and disbursed for Christian purposes.

First United Methodist Church Foundation was created to receive and preserve gifts and bequests made to it for the purpose of extending the mission and ministry of Jesus Christ through His Church. The Foundation is designed to extend the ministries of the Church beyond its routine operations.

Investment Policy

Funds from the Foundation may be directed to any of the various programs or needs within the congregation. At the discretion of the Board of Directors, monies may be sent for Christian outreach endeavors beyond the local Church with particula emphasis in the New Braunfels community.

The investment policy of the Board shall reflect a conservative strategy with preservation of principal being a primary goal. Within this strategy, the Board will seek investments that are federally-insured or sponsored by the Texas Methodist Foundation. Generally, disbursements for causes deemed appropriate under the guidelines of the Foundation shall be made from income earned on principal, although the Board may consider a cause worthy of contributions made from principal.

Your Gifts

Gifts to the foundation may include money, stocks, bonds, real estate, royalities, life insurance policies and proceeds, works of art or other personal property. It is the policy of the Board to convert all gifts to the Foundation to cash or cash equivalents. These assets will then be invested in accordance with the investment strategy approved by the Foundation Board of Directors. The Foundation’s Board of Directors is solely responsible for supervising the affairs of the Foundation, and for managing the assets of the Foundation.

Goals

The expenditure goals of the Foundation are to spend a minimum of one-half of its investment income during each two-year period. If the Board is unable to identify causes worthy of expenditures of at least one-half of investment income from a specific two year period, any such shortfall may be applied to long-term debt of the First United Methodist Church of New Braunfels.

As you begin the process of Estate Planning, it is important to safeguard the interest of your family and other loved ones. More and more people today are choosing to include their churches in their long-term financial planning. As these people develop “Christian Wills”, they are providing for their loved ones first, and then giving a portion of their estates to the Church. Christian Stewardship includes having an up-to-date Will and provides the satisfaction of knowing that important family and financial matters have been thoughtfully and wisely planned.

Should you decide to include the First United Methodist Church Foundation in your Wills, your gift will serve as a perpetual witness. Further, your generosity will influence others toward a Christian life, filled with the promise of eternal salvation.

Your Commitment

The Foundation is most grateful for all gifts granted to it. It is very important to point out that not every individual can nor should make a large gift to the Foundation. At the same time, it may be possible to include the Foundation in planning a major gift today or in the future distribution of your estate. If you do decide to consider making a gift to the Foundation, you may want to take the following steps:

• Consider the opportunity to make a gift and the purpose to which your gift may be directed.
• Discuss your intentions with your fmaily and heirs.
• Counsel with the Church Pastor or other Foundation Directors concerning possible arrangements.
