First United Methodist Church New Braunfels
“…but be filled with the Spirit, as you sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, singing and making melody to the Lord in your hearts, giving thanks to God the Father at all times and for everything in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ.”
Our Music Ministry serves to enhance worship through powerful melodies and lyrics glorifying God. We feature a collection of large and small ensembles featured in regular rotations throughout the year. This ministry showcases its extraordinary capacity for enriching worship through our annual Easter and Christmas Cantatas, featuring an orchestra and expanded choir.
Make a joyful noise – all are welcome!
8:15am Sonrise Singers
start their sessions yearly with only a couple of Saturday rehearsals to rehearse the repertoire for the upcoming season. Each Sunday, they gather at 7:30am for a vocal warmup and review of the worship anthem before service.
9:30am Nameless Band
rehearses weekly, usually on Wednesday or Thursday evenings, and choose their repertoire from popular contemporary Christian favorites you’ll hear on the radio and Christian broadcastings.
11:00am Sanctuary Choir
rehearses each Wednesday evening from 6:45 till 7:30pm with our professional piano accompanist. Each Sunday, they meet at 10:15am for a group vocal warmup and rehearsal for the anthem featured during 11:00am worship.
The First Bells
perform during Traditional worship one Sunday each month during the ministry season. This talented group practices each Wednesday evening from 6:00-7:00pm and additionally gather for an early rehearsal before worship on each of their performance Sundays. Even if you’ve never read music or know how, this experience is immersive – with demonstrations and studies teaching the basics of rhythm counting, tempos, and understanding melodies. We welcome all ages and all experience levels to join in the fun and fellowship of this unique experience!
Cantata Choir and Orchestra
Rehearsals for the Easter and Christmas Cantatas begin approximately two months prior to the performance date. The group combines members of all the choirs, volunteers from the congregation, and an instrumental orchestra. This faithful experience is formatted in the style of a musical, comprised largely of moving musical compositions, with a unique narrative story written specifically for our worship, and combined with beautiful visual presentations. Rehearsals for the cantatas start about two months before the performance date, and are held on Wednesdays 6:45-7:30pm.
8:15 & 11:00am Special Music
Are you a newer member with musical gifts, and you haven't been sure how to share them? Are you a student musician with a solo piece that you'd like to share with your church family?
Our music staff is currently looking for members who wish to share their talents with the congregation during special music time! Even if you aren't ready to return to in person worship, we can work with you to create a recording.
