Missions

At First United Methodist Church New Braunfels, we believe whole-heartedly that we are called to serve others, our community, our nation, and our world. Service can take many forms, from financial gifts, prayer, building, repairing, and donating. We support many organizations in our community, in the US and throughout the world.

Here is how you can get involved:

Local Missions

GAP Packs

GAP Packs

This is a food outreach ministry that targets food insecurity in our local student population. The students we serve are enrolled in the meal assistance programs at their schools, but often do not have sufficient food in the home for the weekends. The backpacks are filled towards the end of the week and then delivered to the local schools. The teachers give the backpacks to the students at end of the day to take home. The students bring the backpacks back to their respective schools at the beginning of each week, and the weekly cycle is repeated.

S.O.S. Food Bank

S.O.S. Food Bank

The Spirit of Sharing (S.O.S.) Inc., Food Bank has been in operation since June 1, 1988. We are an ecumenical group of churches and civic groups that have come together to help the needy of New Braunfels. All food distributed is donated and all labor is volunteer. Most of our donations come in as non-perishable food items. However, although we don’t solicit money, we also receive monetary donations.

New Braunfels Food Bank

New Braunfels Food Bank

Founded in 2010, the New Braunfels Food Bank is a branch facility of the San Antonio Food Bank. We believe that no child should go to bed hungry, adults should not have to choose between a hot meal and utilities, nor a senior sacrifice medical care for the sake of a meal. Over 7000 food-insecure people served each month.  Volunteers needed!

Crisis Center of Comal County

Crisis Center of Comal County

The Crisis Center of Comal County is dedicated to providing crisis and prevention services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault. The agency provides a safe environment where individuals can make educated non-biased decisions about their futures.

The center provides services to women, children and men of all ages. These services include 24-crisis line, shelter, counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, assistance with filing for child support, case-management, victim’s advocacy, transportation, information/referral and community education/prevention. Walk-ins are welcome. Call the 24-hour crisis hotline at 1-800-434-8013.

Fisher House

These homes are located at military and VA medical centers around the world.

Fisher Houses have up to 21 suites, with private bedrooms and baths. Families share a common kitchen, laundry facilities, a warm dining room, and an inviting living room.

National Missions

Lydia Patterson Institute

Lydia Patterson Institute

Founded in 1913, it offers programs for Spanish-speaking children, primarily from Juarez, to attend high school in the United States and attend an American undergraduate university. All high school classes are taught in English, and the school is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

UMCOR

UMCOR

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church (UMC), a non-profit 501(c)3 organization operated under the auspices of the General Board of Global Ministries.

As the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church, UMCOR strengthens and transforms people and communities.

100% of all contributions go to those in need.

International Missions

True Vineyard

True Vineyard Ministries

True Vineyard Ministries envisions entire communities freed from poverty.

We pursue this by reaching out to the most vulnerable people in Rwanda and creating environments where they are empowered to live out their full potential at work, home and in their spiritual lives.

As you learn more about us, you will read an incredible story about how God used one woman to step out in faith to help a group of impoverished widows in Rwanda. What has resulted is phenomenal. Lives are changed forever, our team continues to grow and we have developed amazing partners who continually spur us on toward our vision.

Emily Everett – Brazil

Shade & Fresh Water Program – Brazil

The Rev. Emily A. Everett is a missionary with the General Board of Global Ministries. She serves with the Shade and Fresh Water Program in Brazil, an international partnership sponsored by the Methodist Church in Brazil. She was commissioned in October 2017.

Shade and Fresh Water is a national network of after-school programs for at-risk children and teenagers across Brazil. The main focus areas include character development and social responsibility. While projects are sustained locally and adapted to regional and ethnic differences in the vast country, basic resources are developed and shared nationally. Emily’s role is to promote Shade and Fresh Water as an international mission partnership.
