On July 23, the Coffee Connection Men’s Group completed its summer quarter delivery of care packages to 24 veterans living at 4 different retirement residences. The ministry began three years ago with just one residence. This was the 14th consecutive quarterly delivery by the group. If you would like to support this important veterans’ support effort, you may make a gift to the church, designated for “Men’s Ministry”.
Men’s Group members making the delivery were Rob Clopton, Tony Sellers, and Tom Coss. Residence contacts reading from top left are Gruene Senior Living: Emily Gomez and Emmy Couser, Activity Directors; New Braunfels Housing Authority: Mickey Lloyd and Phillip Colton, Managers; Elan Westpointe: Abby Trejo, Life Coach; Eden Heights National Church Residences: Dara DeReu, Service Coordinator.

Coffee Connection is an informal, low-key men’s group that meets weekly for Christian fellowship. The group meets on Tuesday mornings at 7:30 am at Casa Garcia restaurant for coffee, a good breakfast and enjoyable conversation. The format for the meeting usually follows this pattern:
- Greetings
- Introductions (particularly if we have new members or guests)
- Opening prayer
- Devotional
- Topics that are relevant and usually specific to men
- We often use Rick Warren’s daily devotional
- Group discussion of the devotional topic
- General discussion of church activities, programs, members who are ill or unable to attend and other topics of interest to the group.
- Breakfast conversation
- Prayer requests
- Closing Prayers
The group also has a mission to provide hygiene supplies quarterly to veterans at local senior residence facilities. More recently the group has done small repair and cleanup projects around the church.
With God as the guide, the Coffee Connection will continue to serve him.
Mission Statement
Texas has a rich military tradition. Texas is home to many military installations and active-duty personnel. It is home to even more ex-military and retired military, and to many, many veterans. Life has been good to many vets, but not to all. There are many vets who are victims of injuries both physical and psychological, victims of alcohol, drugs, debilitating illnesses and homelessness.
There are several senior care facilities in the region which house elderly or disabled vets. Some vets have no support system, and very little or nothing to fall back on. These souls have little or nothing in the way of possessions or resources, financial or otherwise, they need help.
The FUMCNB Coffee Connection Men’s Group ministry is to provide a quarterly donation of personal hygiene supplies, towels, blankets, and treats to veterans who reside at Gruene Senior Living, New Braunfels Housing Authority, Elan Westpointe, Eden Heights, and others who may be selected in the future.
The goal is to provide some comfort and enjoyment to those individuals to whom we owe so much.
On July 25, 2025, the Coffee Connection Men’s Group completed the 14th consecutive quarterly delivery to “our vets”. Our ministry has increased to 24 vets at four different resident or care facilities.
